Do I need a referral?
• It is not necessary to be referred. You can call and make an appointment- even if it is just for one appointment to talk about an issue.
What is the fee?
•The fee for counselling is between $90 and $120 for each hour-long appointment. The fee depends on which therapist you see. Each appointment is typically 50-60 min long.
When do I know I need to see a counsellor?
• When you realize that your life could be better and things are not feeling good. Maybe you can carry on, but why continue to live a life that is not your best life?
It is best to see a counsellor before problems become larger and more destructive, ways of thinking and behaving become harder to change, and relationships are further damaged.
How often do I need to go, and for how long?
• Sessions are often recommended at once a week to begin, and then can reduce. But, the schedule depends on your needs, timing, and budget. We will work to your needs. The number of sessions depends on the issue, the progress, and your goals. Many people find that around 4-6 appointments makes a significant difference where they are feeling different and have robust strategies that are helping and they can carry on using.
Can I chose my therapist or change therapists?
• Yes, you can read through our therapists’ profiles and find the one who seems like a good fit for you and the issue you want to work on. You can contact them directly to set an appointment. You can try a different therapist if the fit is not right for you.
Is information shared with my employer or health services?
• No. All appointments are confidential and no information is shared with any government body, medical services, or employers. Your therapist will explain this to you on your first appointment and will answer any questions you have.
The only times things cannot be confidential is if you share information about:
-Ongoing child abuse or neglect (we must report that).
-Planning to end your own life (we will work with you to create a support system that might include family or health professionals).
-If a legal court require us to provide information.
Can I talk about things that are private, secret, or illegal?
• The counselling room is a private and safe environment where you can talk about anything and it will be heard without judgement, criticism, or pressure. You can safely talk about illegal activities, like substance use. You can talk about difficult things like abuse, trauma, sexual issues, and anything else, and our therapists will guide and support you without judgement.
What kind of therapy do you do?
• Our therapists utilise a variety of effective approaches to counselling. Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) is used by most of our team, but we also draw upon other approaches. We work from a person-centred approach that focuses on being genuine and giving our clients unconditional positive regard.
What if my issue is not that big?
• No problem is too inconsequential or embarrassing. If it is affecting your life, it deserves attention. Many people have very nice lives, but they are not feeling happy because of past events, how they treat themselves, or how they think about themselves, and these are very important issues to address. On the other hand, some people are doing very well, but just want to improve areas of their life that could be better, like handling conflict or feeling more confident.
What if my English is not very good?
•Counselling can be done with therapists who speak English, Malay, or Mandarin.
I think I might have ADHD or be on the autism spectrum, can you help?
•Yes. We offer assessments for ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and other psychological disorders. We typically refer clients to our Clinical Psychologists for many of assessments. They will perform a complete assessment and a report. However, when you work with any of our therapists, they will be able to help you know if you meet the criteria for depression, an anxiety disorder, or personality disorders, for example.
•Counselling is multi-cultural and respectful of all religions, cultures and beliefs.
