BSP Launches Employee Assistance Programme with Clarity Sdn Bhd

Clarity Sdn Bhd is extremely honoured to have worked with Brunei Shell Petroleum to launch their Employee Assistance Programme this October 2019. This Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) is evidence of BSP’s commitment to employee wellbeing. BSP is actively demonstrating their concern for their employees’ mental and emotional wellbeing.  By doing so, they remain at the forefront of best practices in employee management in Brunei, making them a preferred employer and an organisation to emulate.

Of course, BSP’s care for employees is not entirely altruistic. When employees are free from mental or emotional concerns, they are more productive, take fewer sick days, have a positive impact on colleagues, and tend to remain with the organisation longer. This investment in employee care will result in long term financial benefits for BSP.

The Employee Assistance Programme launched by BSP will be delivered by Clarity Sdn Bhd and will provide employees and their dependents the benefit of being able to make a private and confidential appointment with a professional, independent counsellor whenever they feel the need to address issues that are affecting them. Any person covered by this programme can seek help when they realise that they’re not ok. Rather than continuing to struggle up to the point of breaking down, people who don’t feel ok can seek help sooner rather than later, without embarrassment or shame.

Employees who are struggling with stress, overthinking, worry/anxiety, depression, marital or relationship issues, family problems, financial concerns, health worries, school problems, anger management issues or any other kind of problem can talk to a professional psychologist and begin to make improvements. The people who seek help are generally not mentally ill and are not “crazy” or weak. They are typical people who realise they’re not functioning as well as they can because they’re mentally or emotionally distracted.

It is incredibly satisfying to know that organisations in Brunei are taking employee wellbeing seriously. The companies which embrace this approach will be considered the forerunners in creating positive organizational cultures, and will be the employers of choice. We hope that more organisations will consider EAPs as a way to improve employee engagement, satisfaction, productivity, retention and attendance.
